Hornby House Histories

George Chrisjohn Home
(by Susan Moore)

The property where this house is located, adjacent to the Chrisjohn Cemetery, was first conveyed by John Hornby to Alanson Chamberlain in 1839. The house in the picture looks as though it was built in that era.  Alanson died in about 1861 and according to his will left surviving his widow Julia and children Curtis J. and Henrietta, wife of William Gray.  Julia Chamberlain died 8 Nov 1873, survivors were children Curtis and Henrietta.  Curtis had already died before his mother, a Civil War casualty, and his heirs were his wife Phoebe, mother and sister Henrietta Gray.  Henrietta and William deeded the property to George and Mary Chrisjohn in 1905.  George died 19 Feb 1911, heirs were his widow Mary, sons: Albert, Martin and Curtis, daughters: Martha Hall and Ida Chrisjohn.  Mary Chrisjohn died 24 Sept 1919, heirs were sons Albert, Martin & Curtis, daughter Ida Havens and grandchildren Mary Hall & Frank Hall.
The house still stands today (Dec. 2000).
