James Sample Permila Allen Sample
James Sample born 1800 NY first settled in Orange (just norh of Hornby) in the 1830s and then moved to Hornby in the 1850s. His wife was Permila Allen born 1802 CT. In the 1860s they moved to Marion, Sanilac County MI, apparently following his eldest sons and others from the area who had moved there. My last record of him was in the 1880 Marion census where as a widow he was living with his daughter Lucretia (Lucy) and her second husband William Brooks.

Aranca's brothers were some of the original settlers of Hornby, her niece Laura Hendrick the first white child born there. Ambrose died in 1865 leaving Lucy with three small children. They went west in about 1876 and Lucy married widower William Brooks in Marion, MI soon after. Lucy's daughter Almira Bedient later married one of William's sons by his first marriage.
